Degi Chicken Karahi Recipe

Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani by Shireen Anwer

Ingredients:

  1. Chicken – 2 kg
  2. Tomato – 3/4 kg chopped
  3. Onion – 3/4 kg thinly chopped
  4. Yogurt – 350 gm/ 2 1/2 cups
  5. Ginger 3/4 cup with 1 1/2 tbsp coriander powder
  6. Lemon juice – 1/4 cup
  7. Green chilies – 8
  8. Ginger flakes – 1/2 cup
  9. Oil – 3 cups
  10. Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
  11. Cinnamon stick – 2
  12. Big cardamoms – 2
  13. Bay leaves – 2
  14. Cloves – 10
  15. Turmeric powder – 1 tbsp
  16. Salt – 4 tsp
  17. Kashmiri red chili – 4 tbsp
  18. Homemade garam masala powder – 4 tbsp
  19. Black pepper crushed – 1 tsp
  20. Dry methi – 2 tbsp

Method:

  • In a bowl, add yogurt, black pepper, garam masala powder, methi and lemon juice, mix and set aside.
  • Take a pan, add oil and fry onion until light brown, then add cumin seeds, cinnamon, big cardamon, bay leaves, cloves, and fry for 2 sec.
  • Then add chicken and fry for 10 minutes.
  • Then add turmeric powder, garlic paste and fry for 5 minutes.
  • Then add ginger flakes, green chilies, salt and red chili and fry for 2 minutes.
  • Then add tomato and cook for high flame for 10 minutes until water dries.
  • Then add yogurt and fry well. Then cover for 2 minutes, garnish with green chilies and ginger flakes.
  • Serve with naan or chappaties.
