Mutton Pulao Recipe

Mutton Pulao Recipe is a traditional Pakistani dish, and it is the perfect recipe for special occasions like Eid, or for any ordinary day. Try it today and share it with your friends and family!


  1. Mutton/lamb – chops-pricked – 350 gm
  2. Rice – 2 cups- washed and soaked
  3. Black cardamoms – 4
  4. Peppercorns – 1 tsp
  5. Red chillies – 4 whole
  6. Cloves – 6
  7. Cinnamon-broken roughly – 1 inch piece
  8. Ghee – 4 tbsp
  9. Onions – 1 cup -sliced uniformly
  10. Salt – 1 tsp
  11. Kashmiri chilli powder – 1 tsp
  12. All spice – powdered – 1 tsp
  13. Hot water – 2 cups- for the rice
  14. Pinch of food colour


  • Heat the ghee in a pan and add the cardamom, peppercorns, red chillies and cloves.
  • When they darken a bit, add the onions and cook till transparent.
  • Add the meat, salt and chilli powder, all spice.
  • Stir fry till meat is opaque and add two cups of water.
  • Bring to a boil and lower the heat and cook covered till meat is tender.
  • Strain the meat and keep aside.
  • Measure the liquid and make up to three cups by adding hot water.
  • Mix liquid, meat and rice together.
  • Bring to a boil, lower the heat and cook covered for five minutes.
  • Sprinkle the colour in a trail and continue to cook covered for seven minutes.
  • Serve hot.
